Description: The kit is an in vitro line probe assay for the genotyping of hepatitis C virus. The assay discriminates between HCV genotypes on the basis of variations in the 5’-UTR and Core regions. The assay works with amplicons obtained with NLM code AA896/24.
On the basis of the in silico sequence analysis, the device is able to distinguish genotypes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 and subtypes 1a, 1b, 2a/2c, 2b, 3a, 3b, 3c, 3k, 4a, 4b, 4c/4d, 4e, 4f, 4h, 5a, 6a/6b, 6g, 6m, 6t and 7a.
The result of this assay should be intended as an aid in selecting type and length of antiviral therapy for patients with chronic HCV infection. Therefore the device is not intended for use as a screening test for the presence of HCV RNA or as a diagnostic test to confirm the presence of HCV infection.
